Cortex, LLC was founded by Thomas Burns in 2014. Tom and his wife Elaine have been deeply involved in providing

care, support, advocacy and services for brain injury survivors and families since 1997, when their son suffered a very

severe traumatic brain injury.

Their son's injury changed their lives forever and led them down many paths including being one of the pioneering families for others as they searched across the country for information, help, support, and services.  Their son became one of the first participants on CT's brand new Acquired Brain Injury Waiver in 1998.  The decision to provide direct services has been one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives.  For years they have directly and indirectly helped others as they struggled to form programs, hire staff and manage services for their loved ones and now, they have embraced the opportunity to directly provide services and care for brain injury survivors in the community.

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Waiver - This program is available to brain injury survivors (this includes stroke, lack of oxygen, etc.) who are currently living in the community and need help and support.  Often, families are providing the help a family member with a brain injury need, and over time they may no longer be able to provide the services or are overwhelmed by the stresses of caring for their loved one.

MONEY FOLLOWS THE PERSON -This program is available to brain injury survivors (this includes stroke, lack of oxygen, etc.) who are currently living in institutions such as an acute care hospital or nursing home and need help and support to be able to live in the community instead of remaining in an institution. The available services are the same as the Acquired Brain Injury Waiver.
